I was born in
West Jordan,
Utah, and grew up on
a dairy farm. I
graduated from Bingham
High School and then completed cosmetology school
in Salt Lake City. I owned my own hair salon and
worked for 10 years while my children were young.
In 1971, my family moved to Weston, Idaho, and we
lived in many of the towns in the northern
Utah-southern Idaho area. When my children
started school, I enrolled at Idaho State
University and graduated in 1984 with a B.A. in
Secondary Education. I taught language arts and
social studies for 11 years at Preston, Madison,
and Rigby High Schools and was also the debate
coach, drill team advisor, and student body
officer advisor.
In 1995, we had the
opportunity to move to St. George to open the area
to the Papa Murphy Take-n-Bake Pizza franchise,
where I worked with my husband for a year. I then
completed my M.Ed. at SUU in Secondary Education
and in 1997 I began working for Dixie State
College as an ETS advisor at Hurricane and
Pine View High Schools. In 1999, I was
hired as the director of the Upward Bound program
at DSC. On August 18, 2003, I was hired as the
director of the ETS program, replacing Ross
Taylor, who retired.
I am married and
have two children and three grandchildren, who I
love to spoil often. I like to travel, read, and
exercise in my spare time. I really enjoy working
with the great staff and students in the ETS
program and am appreciative of the opportunity to
continue working in the TRIO programs at DSC.
