Returning Adults
THE RETURNING ADULTS PROGRAM AT DIXIE STATE COLLEGE
The Returning Adult students (sometimes referred to as non-traditional
students) are students who are beginning or re-entering college
following a break in their formal education. The Returning Adult program at
Dixie was organized in 1987 to help older students make the
transition to college life by:
1) Improving study skills of adult learners.
2) Increasing communication among returning adult students.
3) Planning social activities of interest to older students.
4) Helping Returning Adult students integrate into the college community.
The Re-Entry program at Dixie has two components. The Returning
Adult Forum and The NETO CLUB (Never, Ever Too Old) Club.
The Returning Adult Forum is a weekly class where students hear speakers
discuss subjects ranging from study skills and time management, to
Native American philosophy. The forum is also an excellent
opportunity to establish a network of friends who are in similar
circumstances.
The NETO club is one of the recognized clubs on
campus and is subsidized by student fees. The main purpose of the
club is to organize social functions for older students and their
families. It is also a tremendous opportunity to learn and practice
leadership skills, offer service, and just have fun!
David D. Zundel (Mr. "Z") an advisor in the Advisement & Counseling Center,
is the advisor to the Returning Adult Program. He also oversees the Single Parent Scholarship
fund. He can be reach by phone (652-7695) or by e-mail at zundel@dixie.edu.
He is supported by a Returning Adult Advisory Board of 12 faculty and staff members who are
especially interested in the success of older students. The faculty
and staff at Dixie State College are very supportive of the
Returning Adult students who comprise approximately 20% of the student body.
